I'm pretty sure most carrot tails have orange on the underside of their tail but I feel the phrase carrot tail genes is inacurate as while it is genes that affect the ammount of coloration there are no genes that simply cause a tail to be orange however combinations of genes can cause more or less pigmentation and have a limited affect on placement MSH is I feel a more important factor in determining the orange tail coloration. Sorry I'm just being picky.

There still seems to be a good amount of misconception with what's a carrot tail.

Just because a leo has a bit of orange on the tail does not mean that it's a carrot tail or has the genes. Orange on the tail is normal. The original definition of a tangerine states there must be orange coloration anterior to the tail.

The extreme amounts of orange on the tail has been line bred from wild caught adults showing the trait.True carrot tails are almost always hypos if not super hypos.

Also, carrot tail genes are not there just because there's orange, The trait is line bred like tang. There's no het for carrot tail.
