Update on our new bearded

nansi Jun 03, 2007 09:48 AM

Thanks for all your help on my previous post about our baby bearded that was only eating 5 crickets a day and was spitting out his crickets. Based on info from this forum we increased his temperatures, changed his substrate from sand to repti-carpet, and got him smaller (and better) crickets. He seems to be doing great with these changes - - which brings me to a completely different question.

Can you overfeed a baby beardie? We feed him 3 times a day, and dust his crickets for his morning feeding. Since we made the changes he's been increasing his eating, but this morning he just ate 15 crickets for breakfast!!! (He would have probably eaten more but I'm afraid he'll explode.) Is this ok? Should I keep feeding him if he wants to keep eating?

I'd dust all his crickets with Calcium w/D3 No Phosphorus or Vitamin A. One feeding a week dust with a multivitamin instead of the Calcium. I use RepCal for both. Feed him all the crickets he will eat. I do it for a 1/2 hour but many say 15 mins. I've never heard of an exploding Dragon. lol. The more he eats the faster he will grow and the healthier he will be. I've had beardies eat 100 at one time before.

To dust them I use a juice pitcher and then swoosh them around with the Calcium, etc. It's just easier then trying to put them in a bag as some say.

keep feeding him. honestly you cannot over feed a baby dragon. as they get older monitor what they are eating and how much per week. 15 crickets in one feeding is normal, sometime they will eat more. and i would add one more feeding during the day, this time feeding greens. 3 times a day insects, 1 with greens. better to start dragons as babies on greens. i notice all of my babies seemed to love greens at an early age.
