Boa room Air Conditioner/Heater question

gmherps Jun 03, 2007 10:44 AM

I currently have a window AC in the boa room that is only 5100 BTU. I want to go with more BTU, but the thing is is that I want to hook it into my Ranco T-Stat so I can maintain the temp without the unit running all day. The problem is is that the highest BTU AC's are 5100 that are manual controlled. The electronic models are not able to work with the Rancos, and they will just completely shut the AC down and it will not come back on.

HELP!!!!!! Does anyone of there make a bigger manual controlled AC?

Any suggestions?

I had a window AC unit in my old snakeroom and it had a built in thermostat on it, although it never turned the fan off the AC part would turn off and when it got to warm in the room the AC would turn back on. Just set it to the room temp you prefer. I keep my snakeroom about 78-80 degrees depending on the time of year. The unit only cost aroung $150 and I loved it! I think you may be getting a little to sophisticated with a Ranco and then connecting it to a AC unit that will cost as much as a unit with a built in thermostat! Just my two cents good luck!!!

Right on man! Thanks for the advice. I'm just trying to alleviate the constant running of the unit by running it through a Tstat.

Not sure if anyone will be reading this since it is not too recent but ...

I currently have a window a/c unit in my snake room, but just bought a new one for my bed room. The new one in my bed room cost just about $150 at home deopot. The new one has an energy save mode which when turned on kills the fan when the a/c is not needed. Nice in the bedroom but would be nicer to have in the snake room. Give Home depot a try.
