Bullsnake ?

mkper5 Jun 03, 2007 02:12 PM

Hey, I have a few questions concerning bullsnakes. I was fishing the other day and I caught one around a rocky outcrop. I live in Northeastern Illinois, what type variant lives in this area ?....pine, bull, or gopher/ I was just interested, if anyone knows, I would appreciate it....sorry no pic. I have kept several diff types of snakes that are local to my area. So I read up on Bulls, and some articles suggest that the males combat each other in mating seasons...is this true? Also what is the average size of bulls...males and females? Thanks for any help.

What size are the sexes of bullsnakes, ect compared to each other. It is obvious that in most snakes..females are larger, but since the males combat in order to mate...what are the sizes of the sexes ? Are males larger in order to compete...any info.. Can anyone help, I am inetersted in this subject but I can't seem to find much info. For instance male king cobras fight during mating season and they are very large. Thanks

I am not that versed in Bulls, I recently got my first pair of Kankakee bulls. I believe (others correct me if I am wrong) that in most colubrids the males tend to be bigger. I think the size can range from 5 to over 8 feet. Again, I could be completely wrong on some of this so hopefully others will offer more experienced advice.

You found a bullsnake. Males get bigger. Don't know about combat documentation. Where in NE IL are you? I've found eastern milks in IL, but I'd like to try herping the Kankakee area for bulls and e. hogs.
