Het Abino Oddballs

Serpents Den Jun 03, 2007 02:38 PM

These are both sibling Het Albinos. So far every clutch whether breeding my Albino male to Het Albino females or normal females I have been getting Axanthic looking hatchling and some hatchling have white speckles. Has anyone else produced hatchling like these?

Just curious.

Thanks,
Steve

Last year, I hatched out a het that was a "black back" with a lot of wierd black "moustaching" on it!

Are you working with the "Yellow Blush Albino" line? It has been well documented that het offspring will often have the axanthic appearance when young and attain a normal appearance gradually as they mature.

Brad, does that make it an axanthic then? Would be a neat way to get ya some .

From what I understand het yellow blush albinos are 100% NOT axanthic in any way shape or form.

They definitely look like they are as babies though.

Thanks Brad, personally I think the one in that pic is an excellant example of a very clean looking axanthic though. I wonder if a guy had the bucks he could run DNA examples of both to see if they matched up? Axanthics DO also brown out as they age. Just thinkin' out loud .

Yellow Blush Albino hets are Axanthic in appearance with a slight greenish tint "as hatchlings". When they mature they look like normal hets or at least mine does. The Yellow Blush Albino's as hatchlings resemble "Snow's". They are almost white and soon they start to have a faint pattern that becomes more intense over time. As they mature they start to blush "yellow" until they look almost completely yellow.

"Albino's" can also throw Jungle looking hets with wild patterns and the "lip" patterns. Years ago Jamie Quick produced a beautiful Albino het that looked like the "classic Jungle" as shown in the Barkers Royal Python manual. Bob Clark told me years ago that he produced over the years Albino hets that were jungle in appearance.

"I am NOT referring to Pastel Jungles".

I bought the first pair of the axanthic appearing hatchlings (1.1) that were produced by Serpent's Den. If you don't mind, could you post a pic of the blushing albino so I can see what they look like as adults.

RoyalVariations Jun 03, 2007 11:57 PM

I do not have any photos of my male Yellow Blush since he has blushed. I will try to photograph him tommorrow and post photos.

The enclosed photo is at about six months of age "no blushing yet". When he was a hatchling "just hatched" he was for all practical purposes "white" and after a few sheds he had a nice yellow pattern. I do not have photos of him as a hatchling. You can see from the other post on this thread what a white Albino hatchling looks like out of the egg.

Good luck with your hets. Congrats!

These were produced by breeding a 1999 Vin Russo het albino male back to his daughters. The albinos looked like snows hatching but colored up yellow after a few sheds. The "axanthic-looking" possible hets also colored up after a few sheds. At 450g's the albinos don't look like "yellow blushes".

My male Yellow Blush Albino took more than a year to "start blushing". His blushing has been slow but steady.

Mine were produced by breeding the het male back to his possible-het daughters. When I hatched out the daughters in 2003, none of them looked at all axanthic. Two of them proved to be het albino last year. The axanthic-looking hatchlings didn't show up until the 2nd generation?

RoyalVariations Jun 03, 2007 10:05 PM

That is interesting! Perhaps we should record all data from clutches that produce the hets and the Yellow Blush Albinos and share this information accordingly. Good luck with your season and your Albino project.

Thanks, I'll let you know if the albinos do turn out to be "yellow blushes". I sold off the possible hets.

SpaidsReptiles Jun 04, 2007 08:14 AM

ok last year we bred our albino male to 2 pos. het albino females. One female proved normal in a 6 egg clutch, the other was a het. it produced 4 albinos out of 5 eggs. I think 2 or 3 of the hets from the normal were this axantic looking. Our male is definity not yellow blush and i'm pretty sure the females are not het. When we hatched these we thought the same thing, they look exactly like the axantic so we called Brian at BHB and he said that some of the lines of albino that arn't really high contrast throw these "axantic" hets. but in time, as everyone else said, they go back to normal. Hope this helps we are breedin the het. again this year and will hopfully get some hets.

Steve,

I apologize about the photo. He is opaque! More than likely someone will post a photo of theirs. If they don’t, I will try to photograph mine as soon as he sheds. Again I apologize.

Sincerely, Kyle
