Luckily, the state of Texas is dead set on protecting snakes like this one in their new "wildlife sanctuary".

It takes a lot of guts to level hard to stomach wildlife protection laws. But, our state isn't squeamish. Our leaders are flatly committed to squishing all threats to native herps. They are determined to place wild herps on the path to protection where rubber meets the road.

That really stinks...

Ima tell you what, I got a ton of "sanctuary" pics, and I will have them ready to tell the tragic tale of exactly how well our native Texas animals are faring on them!

If the roadside is considered a "sanctuary" it should be kept a little cleaner. How about giving the wardens a set of shelf tongs to do some house cleaning. After all it's common for a roadside to have litter and debris but not a "sanctuary".

...they will probably save that activity for all the "snake poachers" who get stopped and ticketed. That way, instead of just following the warden in the middle of the night to go pay fines at some B.F.E. JP's mailbox before getting run out of the county, we can pick up roadside trash instead. Imagine the pristine Hwy 90 or other rural roadsides that you can contribute to...How nice.

I'll voluntarily pick up trash, at night of course, in select localities.
