Exo terra heat mat on glass ok?

ronald_durst Jun 03, 2007 09:26 PM

Ive got an 8 watt exo terra heat pad that i was thinking about sticking to the back of a ten gallon glass aquarium. would it break the glass or hurt the tank in anyway? It says for glass only so im assuming itll be ok but i just wanted some experienced opinions. Thanks

Yes, as long as you don't submerse the tank and heat pad in ice water when the heater is hot. Which I don't think you were planning.. yes, glass is very tough, and those ExoTerra heaters do not have enough power to do damage.

Yep, they are made to adhere to glass... as long as you follow the instructions and allow an airspace underneath the pad. If you don't allow room for air to flow underneath the tank, heat could build up too high in spots and crack the glass. I've used UTHs without problems on glass for years (though most of my cages are plastic ones now).
