Exo terra heat mat on glass ok?

ronald_durst Jun 03, 2007 09:46 PM

Ive got an 8 watt exo terra heat pad that i was thinking about sticking to the back of a ten gallon glass aquarium. would it break the glass or hurt the tank in anyway? It says for glass only so im assuming itll be ok but i just wanted some experienced opinions. Thanks

I'm not sure what brand UTH I have, (it was black box,it had a dragon on the front I think) But I have had it stuck to my tank for several months and have not had a problem.

Just make sure to have a thermostat on it so it does not get too hot and break the glass. Also I have heard of people elevating their tanks with 2x4's on each side so under tank can breathe. Might just be a precaution but it might make a difference.

Actually i was gonna stick it to the back of the tank.

I used mine under and it worked fine. I personally like belly heat better than back. Under should be finebut definatally get a thermastat to moniter temps.

bottom is better i used this method on glass before and had no issues, just use some type of substrate to prevert the snake from touching the bare glass
