Type of Honduran Milksnake

gaboonx Jun 04, 2007 09:40 AM

Hello all!!

I was just at a reptile show in MD and purchased this cute little guy for breeding purposes, I am new to breeding but loved this pattern and color I was told it was a Tangerine Honduran Milksnake and from my research prior to picking this up I assumed this is what morph he is, BUT some of the sites I visit don’t show the yellow in the bands even on a juvenile like this so I am wondering why his color is different?? By the way his name is Pilot. From further researching and other forums I was told he is not a morph but a Tri colored, any idea of a going price for this type of snake?

Thanks

If you like and enjoy the snake, then it doesn't matter what they go for, within reason. I guess anywhere around 75$ to 125$ would be good, but I'm no expert. Do you think you paid too much? Derek

Thanks for the response!!

Here is my concern,

He will hopefully be my breeder male because of this I need to know exactly what he is, I trusted the guy even though I thought he was a Tri Color and not a tangerine. After I brought him home and double checked some websites I am not a 100% sure that he is a tangerine. I don’t want to sell his offspring as something they are not if you know what I mean. I paid 85$ in MD seems like a decent price but in all honesty I really don’t know a good going price and now I am not sure the pattern he is that’s why I posted here.

I would've paid $85 for it.

Seems like a good price to me.

It had nice looking bands, and a bit of aberrancy. Nice looking snake all around.

What breeder did you get him from? He is pretty. I would breed him to see what you get. If he is from tangerine, then he should have some tangerines. Contact the breeder you got him from and ask him some questions about the parent or lineage. Derek

I am by no means an expert but I would say you have a very nice wide banded tri color honduran. Very nice - the wide white bands really give it a different look.

My granddaughter is tired of trying to get the snake basket to eat on it's own, so the force feeding has begun!

The breeder replied back to my email and said that the snake is a tri-color Honduran and its possible double het for anery and hypo which makes it also a possible het for ghost. He was a nice enough guy but why label the snake something its not, mistake maybe but I also asked him if it was a tangerine, I am sure he might have been in a rush since he had a huge display but who knows. I am going to buy a female off him as well and I honestly have no clue what the babies will be lol, I know the morphs but since it wont be a dominate(?) gene I may have to breed back a female to the male to get a dominate gene?. This is a learning experience for me I still don’t understand all the morphs yet but after reading Shannon Brown’s website (westcoasthondurans.com) and albinotricolors.com it has helped me allot. Thanks all for taking the time to respond, any help is appreciated.

these two babies are from the same clutch. Both parents were tangerines yet one of the tangerine parents was from a clutch of mixed tang's and tri's.

Its just a visual morph as I call it as its not simple recessive. You can't have a tri-color het for tangerine even if both parents were tangerines. You more than likely will get tangerines but they aren't het per say.

Anyway, since your male is possible dbl-het for ghost you should get a ghost female and prove him out.
