Excluding friends...

Who would you feel the most comfortable buying Hets. from?

Any REPUTABLE breeder. Basically, if you've heard of him and he's been around a while, he's reputable. Seems the fly-by-nighters who sell bogus hets go away rather quickly.

Call me jaded - but after having seen people running several males through females, breeding females back to back, retained sperm incidents, mixed up animals, etc. etc. - I don't much trust anyone's hets to be 100% until they produce. Anything that isn't a visual is a gamble to some extent - these things happen to big and small breeders alike and no piece of paper is going to change that.

Having been burned by the TSE incident - I've pretty much pulled myself out of the market for hets and for the most part buy only visuals now. If I'm looking for hets I am primarily looking for offspring of a certain beautiful animal. Excluding friends - I would only purchase hets from someone that I could get a lot of positive feedback from within my network of friends. I think that is the first thing people need to do is to find themselves a couple of good mentors that have been around long enough that they can turn to - in the long run it can save you many headaches.

Tosha-

Maybe I should have put it a different way then Besides Friends...

What I was getting at, was that maybe somebody wont burn a friend, but they would burn a stranger on the web?

A solid business relationship, where you are friendly with the person is a whole different story than saying Tom or Sue wont burn me cause I went to school with them since 3rd grade.

I was trying to get a feel for who other people on here trust, because they had good results buying Hets from that person. I wanted to exclude someone giving me good feedback just because its their brother-in-law or buddy or something?

I trust someone who has sold to a stranger and has been honest and a good business person.

Actually, I have to also add a story from a friend of mine who is a very well-known breeder up here in Canada. No names. This person was in talks with a VERY large ball breeder in the States some years ago for a pair (or more, been some time since I've heard the story) of het (insert expensive name here) ($10000 for a het trio or so at the time). He was sold the animals as guaranteed hets from this breeder only to breed them out MULTIPLE years to find out that they were in fact het for a MUCH less expensive morph ($8000 homo. female in 2007 compared to a $1200 homo. female in 2007). Nothing has been done to make this right from the VERY large ball breeder to date as far as I know.
Moral; no one can be trusted 100% and even with a receipt, pictures and written genetic proof, you just might get SCREWED.
