i get faster responses here. I also posted this on the hog forum:

My western female never appeared gravid. She did breed but it was to a small male and I thought she didn't become gravid. She started breeding before any of my corns did. My corns laid their eggs a month ago so I assumed she missed the boat only to find, when I was cleaning cages today, 16 eggs in her water bowl!! All swollen and yellowish in color. I took away her nest box 2 weeks ago. I have 2 questions...

1. how long from conception until they lay eggs?

2. how long can the eggs be in the water before they are a total loss?

I am assuming all 16 eggs are now dead but I did lay them out on some paper towels hoping against hope. They where just layed today. I picked the female up yesterday and the eggs where not there. She is big for a hog so I guess I just couldn't tell she was gravid!!

Incubate them; if they're dead they'll go bad within a week. You might have gotten them out of the water soon enough to save them...GOOD LUCK

SINCE NO ONE REPLIED TO YOUR #1 QUESTION, I WILL. SNAKES WILL KEEP THE EGGS INSIDE UNTIL THEY FIND A SUITABLE SPOT. FOR EXAMPLE I'M SURE YOU'VE HEARD SNAKES RETAIN SPERM UNTIL THEY ARE READY TO USE IT. SO MAYBE ITS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE SPERM WAS RETAINED UNTIL IT WAS WARMER OR LARGER, READY, ETC. I'M NO "KATHY LOVE" BUT THATS MY 2 CENTS. AND MY FRIENDS DO CALL ME KATHY JR, BUT THATS ANOTHER SUBJECT

I am letting them sit out now so they can loose some of the water they absorbed and hope they get harder. I f they look good afterwards I'll put them in the container, but they looked fairly swollen!!

incubate them!
I had four eggs that my stripe cream laid in her water bowl while I was at work. I'm not sure how long they had been in there but I didn't find them until around 5:30 P.M.
I really didn't think they would make ...BUT....they did...whoo whoo

I am incubating them. I placed them on a window sill to hopefully evaporate some water from the eggs....they felt like water balloons!! Temp on the sill stayed at 78. Placed them in incubator this evening so we'll see!! Thanks.
