Harmful plant?

maxwelltub Jun 04, 2007 03:57 PM

I was wondering if Schefflera actinophylla (Umbrella plant) was harmful to my veiled chameleon. I found some information about that plant having some toxic compounds, however I have had a chameleon eating the leaves off one for some time with no ill effects. I pulled the plant immediately when I learned it could be harmful but I was wondering if anyone had any incite on the matter. Also what might be some good edible plant that could be used in place of the Schefflera actinophylla?

I use the umbrella for my Panther, but they do not eat the leaves.
The veileds do eat the leaves sometimes, so I'm not sure if people use these much. Ones that are popular and safe are Ficus Benjamin, Most Ficus , Pothoes plants can be hung in the enclosure, and also Hibiscus plants are used, but harder to keep in the house than the others.
LOok on some of the chameleon sites at safe plant lists or what they/breeders use.

I had a Ficus plant in my inclosure and was told it would be bad for my cham so I removed it. There are so many differing opinions on what is or isn't OK to have it gets me confused.

Are there any sources that have a list of what is or isn't good?
