For the locality pine snake guys

Phil Peak Jun 04, 2007 03:58 PM

A couple of photo's of my adult female Dekalb county Alabama northern pine. She is a captive bred specimen with bloodlines originating from near Ider in northeastern Alabama.

Is there anyone else out there keeping this locality? Would like to see some photo's if you have any.

Thanks, Phil

Thanks Tom!!!

Yeah, the hypo was from a line of locality Alabama northern pines that John Meltzer has worked with for a number of years.

Take care!

Yes, it was proven out in his Alabama line, and I believe there are less than a handful of hypos so far, and many hets or poss. hets.

Meltzer doesn't advertise on the classifieds, so that is why you may have never seen them on there before.

Yeah, we are going to Daytona!!! I can't wait!

Very interesting about the Pines and glad you will be at Daytona. Scott Robinson and Todd Hughes are also coming down, 4 Texans......not a bad start! Tom Stevens

Hey Phil, Im proud shes doing great man. Has she calmed down ? I dont think there is many people working with North Alabama pines at all. Ider pines are basically gone from the wild. And im one of the only person that knows about the cherokee county pines. I have a pair of WC Cherokees that are doing great. So I may try and breed these guys. Do you have have any KY pine eggs this year ? I wished I could obtain a female from you one day and try crossing that with my male cherokee. I think that would have an intersting look.

Phil Peak Jun 05, 2007 09:48 AM

She is doing great but she remains a very high strung snake. I have been having a hard time getting any decent photo's of her that show her true coloration. The one's I posted were taken outside yesterday in the sun and are the best I have been able to get so far. Would like to see some photo's of your Cherokee county pines. Sounds like a great project! No luck with our KY pines yet this year but we are stll trying. We were able to work with Will's boss at the zoo last year and breed our west KY female to his male. We are now raising up these hatchlings and they are doing very well. We are still searching for a mate for our cave region pine though.

Thanks, Phil

Thanks Jeremy. She is a stunning example of a pine snake from the western part of their range. I really appreciate the regional variation these snakes have.

...he bred with the Jackson County female, I'll keep you posted. Most of my adults are older, so I don't hold my breath too much anymore as far as breeding goes.

I was referred to Bart Bruno from Cheryville Reptile concerning Kankakee Bulls, He did not expect any but he recommended you, Are you a breeder of these snakes or do I have the wrong person....he also forwarded the email.

Phil Peak Jun 05, 2007 10:16 AM

These are my adult female Kankakee's. I have clutches from both of these girls incubating right now.

Thanks, Phil

BBBruno Jun 05, 2007 01:43 PM

I'm that person, but I'm no longer breeding K Bulls. I'm hoping to have Alberta babies, but I'm not sure if the female is gravid, she doesn't look to be as we speak.

Bart

Phil Peak Jun 05, 2007 10:05 AM

Good luck with that Bart. My female Dekalb county would be breeding size easily by next year. She is feeding very well on rats and is currently around 4.5' and growing rapidly. Her potential mate, a Jackson county male is still a long way off from being breeding size. He feeds well but not with the same gusto as my female and prefers smaller food items. In time he should turn the corner though and take off.

Thanks, Phil

Thanks, if you get any babies I would be interested in a pair..unrelated if you have 2 seperate lines. email
