ok i know this isnt the right forum to do with species type but you guys have been helpfull with all my brb questions whenever i had them. So here it goes. i have had my jaguar carpet for about three months only now yeah i know that isnt alot of time to tame down a snake but it seems she is getting worse than ever. Does anyone have any tips on taming her bad butt down? i got sick of getting bit 40 times for a few minutes a day so i made my girl get some gloves and try and nothin just getting worse and worse if i dont feel like getting bit durring cage cleaning she will ATTACK the HOOK! or worse HERSELF!!! one of you smart rainbow love ppl have to have somekind of tips to charm this baby who thinks she is a beast. *cough Jeff, Dave cough* specialy jeff i know you have been dealing with snakes for quite some time. PLEASE help me tame the devil lol

Young carpets are notoriously nippy!! How old is she? They also tend to be a bit territorial, and have crazy feeding responses.

To clean - hook her out and secure her in another tub..

as for handling.. the method I use it hook em and tail em for a bit, as they get used to that and settle down, I take them off the hook. You will still get tagged a few times, but it is not as bad as trying to grab them out of their cage. Also.. I have seen some carpets that just don't settle down.. but move forward w/ patience and hopefully she will settle down.

btw.. if she is just a "nippy" animal and won't settle down.. you can send her this way, I like nippy snakes and have some nice boys here that she would like.

..I used to raise Jungle Carpets and Diamond Carpet crosses. All the advice the other Tim posted is great. If you can get them in hand using a stick they can learn that humans are warm and comfortable and will not hurt them. These snakes are born programmed to eat anything that moves. They can easily eat a jumbo mouse for their first meal. At first they see anything that moves as a potential meal. If you let them bite and constrict and chew on your hand they will learn that you are too big to eat. If you let them strike and not connect and then leave them alone you teach them that striking gets the "desired" result and makes the big bad human leave them alone.
