Possible Jungles??? Huh???

Jeff Favelle Jun 04, 2007 09:27 PM

If Jungles are a dominant mutation, how the heck can their be "possible Jungles"??

I don't get it.

Well, some has to do with the extent of expression being shown, the non jungle parent/genes in play and just difficulty picking them out when combined with other mutations.

If you look back through archives here you will find several posts with people asking if some neos from a new hypo litter were normals or hypos.

Jungles are not dominant, but co-dominant. Heterozygous and Homozygous have independent phenotypes.

There are possible Jungles because when Jungles are bred to certain boas with certain traits some of the offspring are tough to determine if they are Jungle or not. This occurs more so with Albinos and Hypos. Hypos naturally make abberant boas, so this makes it tough and the color of Albinos can make picking out the Albino Jungles difficult.
In normal breedings there are possible Jungles because the babies may have picked up on some traits from the other parent that may make the color, contrast, and pattern used to determine if it is Jungle hard to pin point.

This two Boa's father is a Jungle and the mother was a Red Group (pastel).

They are Poss Jungle because the breeder or myself CAN"T tell for certain if these animals carry the Jungle Gene.

More and more animals that are bred to Jungles are know to have excelent ,color and crisp pattern very much like Jungles, making it harder to decipher wether they are Jngles or not.

This is even harder when choosing from Hypo,Albino or Sunglow Jungles.

NORMAL Red Group female.

two POSS JUNGLE Red Group (littermate to the Normal above).

Although this animal displays some Jungle traits(abberant pattern) the breeder could not be 100% sure this is a Jungle or not Hence...Poss Jungle.

A Swedish Jungle Poss het albino (Pete Kahl) Unrelated to the animals above.

Hope this Helps.....
