superdave1781 Jun 05, 2007 09:28 AM

Hi everyone, I've not been able to keep up with all the posting in this forum lately! (I got married May 26th, and have been busy doing married stuff) Can someone give me the layman version of what's going on with 1309?? I thought it didn't make it through the house and senate; what happened?? I'm confused, and I'm sure others are too

Harvey Hilderbran snuck the 2414 and 1309 text into HB 12, a bill that will pass one way or another.

We need to urge the Governor to veto HB 12, and request a special session to remove sections 41 and 44 (1309 text and 2414 text).

A special session is possible anyway because of appropriations issues and conflict over Historical sites.

The Governor sets the table for special sessions, so we need to make certain sections 41 and 44 are on the chopping block for the special session.

I'm out for an hour or two.

thanks! So basically, after it was "defeated", it was simply added at the last moment to HB 12...what is HB 12? Sounds similar to what happened with the online gambling thing last year. Who is Harvey Hilderbran? Is he involved with the AR movement, or simply padding his wallet? (what I'm basically asking is does he actually believe all the AR propaganda, or is he a hired gunman, working for the highest bidder?) Sorry to be asking so many questions

>>So basically, after it was "defeated", it was simply added at the last moment to HB 12...
Yep, Harvey abused the trust of his colleagues and ignore their amendments by sneaking the pre-amendment text of HB 2414 and HB 1309 into the Conference Committee version of the bill. He thereby tricked his comrades into voting FOR legislation that they previously voted AGAINST.

>>what is HB 12?
A very important bill that provides much needed funding for TPWD. It is a MUST PASS bill, but many Texas politicians have objections to various parts of it. A veto and special session would be a VERY good idea for many reasons. It was basically rushed to passage. Our elected officials really need more time to work out the problems.

>>Who is Harvey Hilderbran?
Harvey is a very powerful Representative that has been working very closely with TPWD on various issues (particularly HB 12). Unfortunately, he’s on of those politicians that will use ANY means to achieve his agenda. Even if it means tricking his colleagues.

>>Is he involved with the AR movement, or simply padding his wallet?
I don’t his views or connections with AR. This seems to be more a case of him buying into the unfounded claims of a few snake hunter hating employees of TPWD. He is also a land broker for some VERY high dollar ranches and large land tracts. Forcing herpers off the road and into high dollar hunting leases could pad his wallet. (I should add that I’m also a land broker (small time) and would benefit financially if the road herping ban passed –but making money don’t make it right).
