housing spotted pythons together

gride225 Jun 05, 2007 02:53 PM

first let me say i am aware you are not supposed to house more than one snake together. i have been looking at spotted pythons recently and they always seem to be sold in M/F pairs. is this snake the exception to the rule? if so what is the minimum size enclosure for a pair? maybe it is pure coincidence i come across this situation. i just need to know.

I guess they're fairly unlikely to cannibalize, but I saw a discussion on another forum about this. Seems like 50% of people said not to keep them together. I can't recommend anything other than playing it safe and separating them.

many people do not like to house snakes together for many reasons. Some of them are ... that if a snake is sick, say it regurges, you wouldn't know which one. Feeding is more of a challenge because you have to separate them. Blah blah... These are all managable risks if you do things correctly.

Childreni complex pythons get along just fine with each other. If you give them plenty of space and hides you can easily keep a pair together. You see them in pairs because people like to breed their animals, not for any other reason.

I have kept my pair together for 5 years with no problems. They have even bred for the last 3 years. I do separate them for feeding and when the female is about ready to lay eggs (like now).
