another trip , half ruined by rain but braught out some kool amphibians to the mix

a nice northern black racer followed up by 3 eastern box turtles

right b4 it started raining we found 7 juvenille marbled salamanders, possible hybrids between spotted/marbled
then once therain hit we came across a nice adult marbled salamander crossing a clamshell quad trail

also found a nice ifnestation of caterpillars on some treelike bushes along the waters edge
also seen tons of baby spring peepers emerging from the water as small as a matchhead . and some sort of chorus frog that i havnt identified yet slipped away from me.tons of toads were hoppin all over as well . also caught a eastern painter in one of the ponds that pretty much sums it up besides for the fact that we stayed up all night fishing and crabbin and set out herpin on no sleep , fun stuff

Hi, I can you you a few tips. Just look and don't touch. In NJ the law says you can't collect or touch any wild animals. Even taking pics you have to be careful not to pose/touch the animal. It stinks but so does this state's laws.

Cool, I will contact you. Just to clear the air from the other post. I was (of course) joking about a "western herper by trade". i graduated from ASU and spent 5 plus years there looking for herps. my understanding is NJ is quite strict...when i was younger i read about the pine barrens alot and ironically getting a chance to move there. so i am a bit geeked, cheers, zak.

well then your a lucky man, the pine barrens are a great place
living in PA, ide still rather head over to jersey anyday rather than go to MD or delaware or anything .total different landscape , i love the sandy clam shell soil evrywere you go , the air is fresh n clean, gas is cheap , and the wildlife is just jaw dropping . its always a fun trip ive been there a million times, never gets old.
and yes jersey is stricht , but ive never realy had any problems ,as long as you got a camera and your not running around with snake bags and containers then your kool, ive seen alot of fish n game officers but they never gave me problems .oh yeah , another good tip.....LOOK IN YOUR BACKYARD,yup , jerseys great no matter were you go come sort of herp will keep u busy ,thefirst albino pinesnake was actualy hatched out of some eggs that were collected from the barrens.
my email is closedcasket88
drop me a line whenever you want

The first sally appears to be maybe a tiger. Spotted salamanders aren't in the barrens. I'm not a salamander guy but I've seen nj tiger sallies and when young that is what they look like.
