Suriname bcc question

sean1976 Jun 05, 2007 10:32 PM

Does anyone have a link to good suriname bcc information or raise surinames themselves?

I may be interested in getting some down the road but am having trouble finding much information on them.

Namely,

What is the average full size of the males and females?

How is there temperment?

Are there any common health problems or quirks?

Are there any suriname morphs other then hybrids?

Is there a good collection of pictures online showing the range of appearance of surinames?

Or any other good general information on this subspecies.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Sean.

That was what I was looking for.

The first I had seen but wasn't sure about it's information as it says that Hogg Island boas are not found wild anymore which is an exageration or inaccurate from what I have been told recently. Aparently there is a conservation or science research project tagging/tracking the native population currently to establish it's actual status.

The second I was familiar with for other snakes but thought i had checked already. Musta missed the suriname on there or confused sites.

Anyways thank you again for the quick response and the links.

Sean.

Although neither of those answer the question about non hybrid morphs in surinames but I am assuming that there are none.

I think you are correct - to my knowledge there hasn't been a color-based morph that began as full-blooded surinam, though I could be wrong. There is a genetic stripe line though (or was that guyana?), which could be considered a morph, but nothing like albino, aneryistic, or hypo.

This probably stems from the fact that more BCI are imported than BCC, and BCI can be bred at a slightly younger age, so more babies and breedings = the possibility for more morphs, as the Boaphile has pointed out in the past (at least as to why there are few Boa morphs than there are Ball Python morphs).

I'd love to see a straight-from-the-wild color morph BCC...
