Tuscon Herping....success!

fattiesnleos Jun 06, 2007 03:40 AM

okay, some of you may have noticed ive been posting about the western banded gecko. i finally got some great tips and was able to find, catch and release about 20 of them! i also saw several walking sticks, mantices, scorpions, giant wolf spiders, mice, and a jack rabbit that was like 2 1/2ft tall. i found two of the little banded snakes and one of the others. i have no idea what they are but they were cute. heres some pics, i would post more but they are all similar. some of the female geckos were gravid and i think this is one of them. all this was about within 2-3miles and about 9-12 pm.

Way to go! Always sweet to find your target species. That Leafnose snake looks cool, and I love the Glossy. I believe the Glossies from down in that region of AZ are Arizona elegans noctiva. The little geckos are always a good find and make interesting captives.

Cool finds, lucky to find a Pima Leafnose. I couldn't tell but your other snake looked to be a weird patterned Spotted Leafnose, or maybe it was just the angle of the shot.

The one in the cup is a Pima Leafnosed - one of my favorite snakes. They can be really common at some times around Tucson.

The other snake is a Spotted Leafnosed, albeit a rather odd one.

Neither do well in captivity, in case you were considering keeping them.

Fattiesnleos The good news is Leaf nosed snakes will do OK in captivity. The bad news is they like to eat Banded Geckos
