How can you tell if gravid

teacup77 Jun 06, 2007 07:46 AM

This is the first year I tried breeding my male with my two female red tails, all are plenty big and I saw several locks with each female during the fall/winter, are there any signs that I can look for to know for sure they are gravid? I know they usually give birth around now.

If you didn't notice swelling from an ovulation or get a date from her shedding after ovualating, other than an ultrasound the only way I know of to tell if shes gravid is to see babies in the cage. This was my first year attempting to breed boas so my experience is very little at best, my females got bigger but I couldn't tell for sure until I saw babies in the cage.I just had to be patient and keep looking in the cages multiple times a day for the past several weeks. Then one night I saw a wet spot and alot more than 2 eyes looking back up at me. Best of luck to you. Nick

Seeing babies in the cage is NOT an indicator that she is gravid.

If anything, they show she is not gravid.

At least not anymore!!
