I got A Redfoot!!!! Question??????

FireDrake Jun 06, 2007 09:18 PM

This is my new baby, but I have a question... when do they lose the egg tooth and umbilicus??? I was told this baby was 3 weeks old? It had what looked all the world to me like an umbilical chord still attatched when I got it... and I think it has an egg tooth? I included a close up of its face (very cute) with what I thought might be the egg tooth.

Thanks

Sarah

very nice
I am not positive but I thought that reptiles would all lose their egg tooth within a few days or within the first week.

I have a very small leopard that has a bump on his beak something like yours, not quite as large and I figured it would wear of with age. the plastron will smooth out with age (from being crunched up in the egg) but they don't have an umbilical cord per say, it is the remnance of the yolk sac which is absorbed by the baby tort.

hes probably fine be sure to keep him well hydrated with daily soaks, not to deep, this will help him a lot to establish well in his new home.
I got my redfoot after he was about 3 1/2" so I missed that age all together. but my leopard is still very small he was about 1 3/4" when I gotr him. I like to keep a log of weight in grams and length and width about every month been doing it for years.
have fun

wow, mine was older than that when i got him. what a little cutie! i love how round their little heads are when they're babies.

i tihnk that the egg tooth just drops off eventually, and the yolk is absorbed.
