new monitor room pic...

robyn@ProExotics Jun 06, 2007 09:27 PM

we are building a brand new 10,000 sq ft facility, but because life sometimes throws you curveballs, we have moved into a temporary (8-12 months) facility.

it has nice large rooms, and we have gotten a head start on some new monitor caging. these are 10 ft long troughs, 3 ft wide, 4 ft tall, there are 20 of those in this room.

they have acrylic on the middle top for viewing, side and end access doors, as well as top doors on either side. 3 and 4 ft troughs make an island in the center of the room, for smaller monitor species.

the orange tubs are our new version of baby monitor setups. no more glass tanks on a rack. bulbs are all mounted on the inside, as opposed to in a reflector on the outside looking in.

kinda makes it look like a Halloween lantern festival, especially with the main lights out : )

If I come to work see lots awesome set-ups and animals like that, I'd probably be happy and wouldn't need anti-depressant.

Well maybe two tubs! Sweet looking set up you have there, looking forward to seeing everything set up in the new place! Big Jim

Yepper, looks like somebody's been busy! And since this building is temporary there'll be more fun not far down the road when it comes time to move everything.

Nice lookin' setup/operation, Robyn.

Have a good one!

Looking good. Hopefully everything goes smoothly from now until the new building is done. Are you guys going to be open on Saturdays for dry good at the temporary place?

Steve

Hi Robyn,

So is the inside lined with anything? If not, how do you think the wood will hold up? Or are those just temporary cages? Just wondering.

Cheers,
Sean

there is no direct contact with soil, water, or digging activity, and judging from past experience, i think it will be fine. we went with half inch, which was a LOT cheaper than 3/4, but if i had to make a change, i would go back to the thicker ply, it doesn't flop around as much : )

of course, i would not use plain wood as the base to any soil cage, these all have metal troughs as the base holding the animals and soil.

Just a thought.... Have you ever thought about making some channels on the bottom of the stock tanks for the forks of a forklift to go through, making it easy to move around as long as you can get a lift in the room.

May well be too much trouble but I was thinking that if you changed out the dirt in those things often enough the forklift idea would work great, especially with one of those lifts that have the rotating forks. Lift the tank, carry it outside & rotate the forks to dump the dirt.

Catch ya later!

I would love to see a picture of the inside, through an open door if you get the chance. They look similar to some 8 footers I used to use. Thanks for the peek.
