Eggs starting to dent in?

EricBodrero Jun 07, 2007 02:04 AM

What does this mean exactly? Too much humidity? Too less humidity? These are Florida eggs and they've been cooking since April 24 at a steady 83 degrees and between 70-80 percent humidity. Should I be concerned at all? Thanks!

Eggs sometimes dent before they pip.
Sometimes they dent from too little humidity.

I had two eggs dent early on this year that popped back out when I added damp moss.

I suspect in your case they are denting in preparation for pipping. You can try adding some damp (but not wet) moss. Last year same thing happened to some of my eggs a few weeks before hatching, adding humidity did nothing to reverse the denting - and they hatched just fine.

The eggs that didn't dent hatched last. The one that dented the most hatched first and is my best feeder from the clutch - very healthy, no issues whatsoever.

if i counted correctly you're around 44-45 days of incubation. brooksi eggs hatch aorund 50-55 days in my experience. but also give or take a few days since you and i probably incubate a little different. most likely they are getting ready to hatch some time soon, but it wouldn't hurt to put some sphagnum moss in there. soak it well then really squeeze it out.
don't forget to tell us how things go.
