Laying slugs?

coiledtostrike Jun 07, 2007 04:35 PM

My snow corn, Ivory, is four years old and she laid her first 29 slugs this year, every few days for the last three weeks. Can I expect her to do this every year from now on?

Thanks!

April.

did you hibernate both her and the male/s that you paired her with?

did you pair her with more than one male? (maybe your male is bad)

how many times did she lock up?

But, remember that even with knowing the answers to these questions.. any responses you get will just be opinions not facts and either way you will need to try agian next year to get a definite answer.

No no no, I didn't pair her with any male or anything - she just laid them out of the blue. I don't even have a male corn snake. I didn't change her temps or cycles or anything. Will she still lay even though I don't plan on breeding her anytime soon?

Thanks.

yes -she more than likely will lay now every year....so you might as well buy a male and breed her in and around the month of March.......

good luck......

I am unclear if you tried to breed your snake or not,if you did, Mike asks some valid questions if not, even a unbred female can and will produce unfertile eggs, though i doubt she will do so every year.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be unclear - I did NOT try to breed her. I was just wondering if she would continue to lay unfertilized eggs for the next few years.

She's always been an amazing girl, everything like clockwork with her, so I just like to know what to expect.

As they said above unbred female corns will lay clutches of unfertilized eggs but not normally every year.

Keep in mind that at 4 years old she has probably been capable of laying for a couple years now and this is the first time she has.
