Is this Normal With Hondos?????

latin1956 Jun 07, 2007 06:23 PM

I have this Anery Female Hondo that last bred with the male on April 5, 2007. She mated with this proven male 4 times. Well I have another Female that finished mating in April 13 and today she is laying eggs.

This particular female has not had her pre egg shed yet!. I palpated her today and I felt 8 nice size lumps. Last year she reabsorbed her eggs and did not lay. She is very healthy and eats very good. Here we are today June 7, 2007 and not even in the begining stages of getting blue. She has a nest in her cage and all.

Now is this normal?? or do I have anything to worry about??

Please share your thoughts. And thank you in advance.

So you stopped introducing the male April 5th? Why did you stop?

If she has some lumps, you should re-introduce them as many times as possible until you have no doubts she's gravid...then introduce them some more. The point is, keep placing them together as it only helps fertilization!

Some of the experts may have some more detail regarding this subject.

Introductions

I'm still experimenting with the best time or times to ensure mating. For example putting the female in the male's cage:

1) in the evening
2) in the morning
3) right after eating
4) a couple days after eating
5) leaving them together for 3 days

The main problem is I'm doing all of these things in series, so I guess I can't really say which method is working the best. I think the main thing I'm trying to accomplish is to ensure fertile eggs.

Here's to hatching neonates!!!

I'm not too sure if females have laid without having a pre-lay shed but I always pair them up until the female starts shaking the male off

Well I always look for at least 3 confirmed lockup, I saw 4 with this feamle. I brumated my snakes from Oct to Jan this year and so far or 11 females I had to breed 9 have laid good clutches so far. I just had one laid last night of 8 good eggs, and this female was breeding at the same time as this on that has not had her pre egg shed.

Thanks
