Is this normal? Snake bite issue

lissabell Jun 07, 2007 08:16 PM

Ok, so last week I got bitten. No biggie, and yesterday it looked completely healed, I could only see a couple of very faint marks from the bite.

Today around lunch, though, I happan to look down at my hand, and at first though I had some sort of rash, like poison ivy or something. But when I looked, I could see that I now had a red bump where each tooth mark had been. It almost looks like some sort of allergic reaction? Not quite sure what is going on there.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Never happened to me, and I am allergic to everything!

It may be that the teeth were left behind in your skin?

That would be my guess...

I got the bumps on each tooth mark after a bad bite -- it's just the body's reaction to the saliva, bacteria, and tissue damage. It should go away within a few days, but if it gets worse or red or oozy, get it checked out.

You'll be fine. They go away, and hopefully you can get your snake more acclimated to handling. It can take a long time for WC and they each got their own personalities.

I would say there is a tooth or 2 left in there and it is getting infected. This happend to me I had to dig out the teeth (6 in total) out befor it would heal.

Sounds like some teeth stayed in your skin. I had that happen with a cornsnake. All bite marks healed up but one stayed tender and didn't heal like the others. It was scabbed over but raised and tender. I squeezed it and out popped a tooth. Used a bit of rubbing alcohol and it healed fine after that.

If you are not into squeezing things out that hurt, try soaking with saline solution (warm water with salt in it, about a teaspoon per quarter cup). After soaking for 10-15 minutes, you can gently squeeze with tweezers (hurts more in my opinion) or just your fingers. That should pop out the tooth. Use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol to disinfect after removing the tooth, wash and dry. If you feel you need it, use a bandaid after with a bit of anti-biotic cream.
