Chocolate?

beuz Aug 16, 2003 05:47 PM

Hi,

Have you ever seen a green day gecko eating chocolate ? My gf put some soft chocolate on her finger and the gecko licked it, and seemed to like it! Even if I don t think so, can it be NOT good? Of course, at reasonable quantities. We all know what it does to us !

Thanks

Beuz

Did you know that chocolate is like poison to dogs? I had a friend whose dog got into a chocolate cake and died. Other animals I don;t know about, but frankly I wouldn't risk it with a gecko. Look at it this way - would they ever have access to a food like this in the wild - probably not therefore their bodies are not made to assimilate it so who knows how they might respond.

Weird that any sort of herp would eat it in the first place!

Hey,
I just posted a long answer to your breeding question below... giant day geckos like things that are sweet, rather than feeding it chocolate, try either peach baby food or just sweet fruits like strawberries or mango.

Thank you for your answer.
I odered this book yesterday, as well as some moisturisers!
I had them for about a month. Didn t seem to fight. I'll transfer them at the next cleaning.

Thank you

Do you think that when I separate them, I can divide my container with a screen or something like that or should they just be completely separate and out of sight of each other ?

Thank you

I'm not sure about this... but I personally don't think your geckos would be too stressed out if you just separated them with screen. If they stop eating or something, you might consider a barrier or something.

I work at a pet shop and we have tons of house geckos loose (to catch stray crickets). One day, I bought a bag of chips ahoy and left it open and later found a gecko inside eating my cookies. I knew this because there was a BIG chunk missing and it looked like it was licked out. It was the big chocolate chunks kind (the brown bag) and I think it ate a whole big chocolate chunk. We were all kinda surprised about that. No idea what happened to the gecko (it ran like hell) or whether it was bad or not, but he hasnt come back. I have seen them eyeing other bags of chips and so on that we leave on the counter
