Baby BD Behavior...

TheCid Aug 16, 2003 05:53 PM

I just aquired my first ever Bearded Dragon today. Its about 3 inches long, so im assuming its only a couple weeks old. Now, I feel that I know all that I should in order to maintain the health and well-being of my BD, but there is one issue that I have a question for you experts out there. It has to deal with its behavior, which to me seems quite odd. The only word i can find to describe it is... clumsy. When he walks, he wobbles, and when he looks around, he jerks his head so fast that sometimes he literally falls on his back. I was just wondering if this is normal skittish behavior of a young BD, or should i be worried?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

i have NEVER seen or herd of a dragon "whiping his head around so fast he flips or on his back"

what i have herd of is a baby dragon not getting enough calcium and going in to seizures which i would bet is mostly likely the cause of the clumsyness and back flips.

make sure you dust up the apropriate crickets ( i would say NO larger than 1/4 inch crickets) with good calcium powder. to be certin he isn't Hypocalcemic. and i would even offer a few drops of pedalite with a pinch of calcium poweder via a clean unused eye dropper to hydrate and get in some calcium

Hi
it sound like he needs uvb/uva licht like a reptisun 5.0 closeby and he need calsium on his cricks.
try to find the sticky tongh farms minneral indoor with d3.
it sound he needs calsium and uvb light help him to get the calsium into the body.
tremors, walking wobble, flipping on the back while they climb r sign of calsium shortest.

This definately sounds like a calcium deficiency. As some one said before, mix some juice or pedylite with calcium and get it into that baby fast! Call the breeders up and ask them whats going on too. If they sell babies with calcium problems they should give you your money back. Call a vet asap and get an appointment to see if anything else is necessary. Good luck.
