How about a Billboard campaign?

vision Jun 08, 2007 05:11 PM

How about Joe's poster up on a billboard and a link to a website of our choice?

I bet this might be something that we could get donation money for.

Imagine billboards leading into this nitwit's district with his name being associated with those other historical political scoundrels.

I am in for at least $100.00.....maybe more.

my poster may be a little radical though, we can come up with something just as damaging and more to the point. I'm in for $100 a month until the election.

LEADERS IN CIVIL RIGHTS

Adolf Hitler

Joseph Stalin

Saddam Hussien

???? Hilderbran

www.logojoe.com to see how your
civil rights are being trampelled today

My guess is that we could raise thousands of dollars for a billboard campaign that would put the fear of god into Hilderbran and make any other weak kneed politician blanch at the thought of mesing with those "snake people".

Joe, if you put the art work together to show people exactly what the billboards would look like, I am positive that we could raise plenty of dough.

Joe Forks Jun 08, 2007 06:02 PM

I'll put the artwork together. I'll produce newspaper and magazine ads, brochures, signs, what ever else we can think of.

We need to agree on a simple, yet powerful message and then repeat it as often as possible in as many media venues as we can afford.

When herpers begin to see real life photos of the billboards going up,,,I don't think it will be difficult to raise dollars for the cause.

Maybe, instead of the satirical, "CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS"

The billboards should say, "CIVIL RIGHTS KILLERS"

Then, on the weblink, we need to explain what a devious and underhand civil rights killer this Hilderbran fellow is.

Everything needs to be simple and easy to read.

Eby Jun 08, 2007 06:46 PM

"Civil Rights Killers" is simple, but it seems a little vague. I know what you mean, but Joe Public won't necessarily see road herping as a "civil right".

That being said, I don't have a better idea. I'll give it some thought.

I'd be happy to help with some graphics if needed. My major is graphic design, and a billboard would be a great thing for the resume. haha. let me know.

Maybe a billboard that has a dead snake (but not badly mutilated...to make it easier on the eyes) on the road. Big letters that says "Hilderbran is a killer" Subtext that says "Saving lives is now illegal". haha.

Eby Jun 08, 2007 08:03 PM

Good idea, but many would prefer a dead snake over a live one. If we go with this idea, we might want to use a DOR turtle instead.

FR Jun 08, 2007 09:11 PM

I e-mailed this to Joe and it may be old hat. But after reading that HB, I realized they made it illegal to hunt from the road. To hunt actually means to "take" in most cases that means to kill.

This brings up an odd idea, it would indeed make it illegal to run over a snake. As that is to take. So do they cite all those that run over snakes. As you know, there are many that are not running them over accidentally. But hunt them to kill them with a purpose.

Maybe this needs to be brought to their attention. Cheers

NWFLHerper Jun 08, 2007 10:36 PM

Doubtful that would be an issue as they don't currently cite people who hit deer with hunting without a license.

Eby Jun 08, 2007 11:12 PM

I've thought about that also. The key is showing intent.

We could set up a large fake snake on the shoulder or center line, then videotape anyone that swerves to hit it. We could then use this evidence to force TPWD to enforce this crap law against snake killers. If TPWD refused, we'd have a strong case for selective enforcement and ignoring the REAL threat to snakes in the "sanctuary".

vision Jun 08, 2007 11:58 PM

I think their new law is filled with "holes" that we need to exploit with creativity and ingenuity.

It should be an interesting battle.

Eby Jun 09, 2007 12:10 AM

You're right about exploiting the holes. I just hope we can do it without lying.

I've seen a number of posts where people indicate they will just lie. I doubt this should be necessary. Also, whenever any of us do lie to LE, we give them cause to be more suspicious of all of us.

My plan is to tell them EXACTLY what I'm doing and challenge any citations in court. Some can't afford this approach (schedule and locale doesn't allow court challenge; work clearance jeopardized by conviction, etc). For these folks, I'd recommended having no obvious evidence of herping. Instead have bona fide evidence of other activities. But if asked, "Are you herping?" Just deflect the question and refuse to answer. A possible response could be, "Do you see any evidence of herping?" If they can't prove anything, they can't do anything.

I can squeeze a grand out of my arse up front, but a monthly promise from me would have to be around 100 bucks, maybe more, rarely less. I'm a very good follower, so long as the ideas are logical and well thought out. I won't follow blindly, but I do like this idea. When it's time, just say hand it over and I'm there.

Keep the brain storming going. You guys are all doing a great job on this BS. I sincerely aplaud all your efforts.
