what sort of frog is this??

Sonya Aug 16, 2003 06:40 PM

Background.....tadpoles are out of a medium sized pond in Upstate NY. The frogs size is mostly apparent from the pict....that is an adult hand. It just morphed last week.
I am thinking it is a green frog. Or am I way off?

Yeah, that's a Green Frog.

It may be still too young to get a positive identification. I am thinking it is not a green frog, the dorsolateral fold goes too far down for my liking.

Here's a pic of some definite green frogs that morphed for me this past month. Youu can use this to compare with the froglet you found. It is definitely not a bullfrog, with those ridges down its back; bullfrogs have none. My guess would be green or mink frog.

I would love it to be a mink...as we are on the edge of the range and all. I wondered about the greens being that small as a newly morphed baby.
My amphibian taxonomy sucks, but I am learning and can be taught. I have a friend who will see it midweek and I am still up for suggestions.
What else might it be and I will get back to my field guides too. Thanks
