Prepping for a Car Trip

Yertle Jun 08, 2007 10:09 PM

I will be visiting family for several weeks this summer and it is easiest to bring my ball with me. This will be a two day car trip from TX to NY. I have not had to travel with him before so I wanted to get some tips for how to travel with a ball to minimize his stress.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Have you ever driven this journey before? I ask because when we moved to Texas from Wisconsin and then back again, it took us 3 full days each time.

When we moved, we put our ball pythons each in their own snake bag, and put them into large Sterilite tubs with air holes and heat packs on the bottom to keep them warm. They made it just fine.

We make this drive several times a year. It's about 20 hours of driving that we make in one long day (14 hours) and one short (8 hours).

Here are some other details: I will be bringing his 20 gal long tank and all standard equipment/accessories as well. Since I will be in one place in NY for 8 weeks, I thought this seemed fairly acceptable for his comfort. Once we get there he will be in his own home and not making any additional trips until it's time to go back at the end of the summer.

Well if your trip takes you close to Lufkin Tx. You can leave it with my Rescue and pick it up on your return trip. That would be the less stressful way . And we do this for a lot of Herpers in the aria at no charge . Anything for the benefit of the reptiles we will be glad to do . David of DS Reptile Rescue , Removal & Rehabilitation
