frustrating non-feeders!

begunwithaletter Jun 08, 2007 10:31 PM

So I have successfully gotten 5 or the 12 babies from my litter eating... everyone has the same conditions, but for some reason 7 of these babies just WILL NOT eat!

They are all finishing up their second shed, and as of this weekend they will be 5 weeks old. It's just really, really frustrating me! I've tried live rat pinkies, live mouse fuzzies, f/t rat pinkies and mouse fuzzies... I've brained them, done the 'overnight bag' trick (that works 99% of the time for my colubrids), and I'm just about ready to force-feed rat pinkie heads at this point, to see if I can 'jump start' their feeding responses...

Do any of you have any suggestions you can offer me?

I use live hopper mice for the first few meals their initiation to the world of life as a boa...I find that baby boas don't like little pinks or fuzzies, live or dead, they don't seem to recognize them as food most of the time. After they are feeding then worry about getting them to eat F/T rodents. You have to watch them to make sure they eat the little hoppers, but it beats weeks of waiting hoping they will make it.
