My Roach Setup

eminart Jun 09, 2007 08:17 PM

Thought I'd post a couple pics of my new Dubia colony because.......... well I don't have anything better to do. I'm using a UTH for heat. There's roughly 200 roaches in there, about half of which are adults. Any comments or suggestions from the pros?

Wow, so nice and neat and new.
I have Lobsters. I put them in a 10 gal with stacks of egg carton, and drink holders and paper towel tubes. Dog food gets thrown in on top and I drop in leaves of greens likewise. I know it is time to clean them when there is more droppings in the bottom than an inch or two. Reproduce like fleas and so easy.

Just a suggestion: use egg-crating, if possible. Also, I supply water via vegs & fruits & periodically spray the sides of the tank with reverse-osmosis drinking water (to prevent mineral stains). If water is supplied with wet objects, they'll be fouled with feces & the bacteria will cause some roach die-offs.

I've been breeding 7 different species successfully for 9 years & made a few mistakes along the way.

Yes, definitely the egg cartons. Another suggestion that I have is to have the food in smaller pieces so it is easier to eat.

Is there any place to get egg cartons without having to buy eggs? We don't really eat many eggs at my house. :D

Oh, haha yeah, I eat a lot of eggs so thats how I get them but you can also get them from here for pretty cheap. Don't forget to choose the egg trays and not the cartons.

You can usually get egg-crating for free by asking your local McDonalds, Denny's, Jack-N-The Box, Burger King or other breakfast-serving fastfood/restaurants in your area. You should speak to the manager or head chef/cook about putting these aside for you before they dump them.
