Herpstat Pro

badcompnay Jun 10, 2007 10:23 AM

Dave,

Can each outlet on the back of the HerpStat Pro be configured to a certain temp eg; for my bearded dragons an ideal temp would be about 105. For the Leos, it would be around 88 and for the BRB it would be like 85 and lets say for my corn snake it would be around 85 as well. Can I configure each outlet to accomodate every animal?

Absolutely, all temps and noight drops are individual. The only thing I can see that is tied together is the clock and the night drop timing. aka all four go into night drop mode at the time you set and all four go back into day mode at the time you set. You can have zero night drop on one or all, and each is individually programed!!

I think if memory serves, two can even be set to light mode where they are not "probed" and simply turn on your light source during day mode.

Oh yeah, when in heat mode, they are proportional so rarely does the heating element see full power unless under rated for heating the area required.

Yeah, they are some impressive units.

details at Herpstat Pro

looks pricey at first until you factor in it's really four t-stats with built in night drop. Then you realize it's much cheaper than helix.

BTW, the Herpstat Pro probes are like 10 - 12 feet so quite long enough to reach!! A problem I'd run into with Helix and even ordered some special with linger probes. Of course at an additional cost.

So you are saying if I can get all my cages together I could hook up a couple of racks and a couple of cages on this one thermostat and they would all run separately? I did not realize they had one like that. That means I could get rid of four of my cheap thermostats and get this one. Then later get rid of other cheap ones and set up 4 more heat units on it. Does it matter if the heaters are different types, like different size flexwatts and stuff?

YUP

Four totally seperate channels, each independant of the others.

Only ONE thing tied together, WHEN dight drop comes on and off. Each channel does have seperate setting for how much to drop temps at night.

Sweet, huh!!

They are a great unit, as I picked up my first Pro model. I have a few of the Herpstat ND's, and love them. Not cheap, but I feel they work very well.

just crunched numbers on them and one herpstat pro goes for $319 list price.

A corresponding helix system would be:

4 each Helix DBS 1000, 4 X $135 = $540
4 each night drop cord, 4 X $25 = $100

Total = $640 or literally TWICE the price of one Herpstat Pro!!

Note, that DOES NOT include longer temp probes OR timer unit to plug night drop cord into.

Don't get me wrong, I have a bunch of the helix units and really like them for individual use. The Herpstat Pro really shines when you have multiple heating zones that could be controlled from a central spot.

Totally cost effective!

At the time I bought the Herpstat pro I needed only one termostat. with my recent buying rate I figured I should get the pro model, as it will cost less than buying for idividual units

IF you use night drop, then same price as two Helix units, w/out using night drop, then cheaper than three helix.

Like I said in other posts I really do like the helix units also. But for single area usage w/out night drop. One difficulty for me with Herpstat Pro is I keep everything on wheels so it would have to be stack dedicated so I could wheel it around seperately. So far have 4 of them and each one operates one stack. LOVE EM!!!!
