great basin with a huge meal

We had this rad herp trip planed for the owyhee river in southeastern oregon and threw a rod on the way there about 700 miles from home, portland or. We sat at a gas station in the middle of bfe for 8 hours for my cousins to come get us from eastern washington. The only snakes were a bunch of dor basins, 2 C. c. mormons, I risked my tail getting full of rock salt by checking out the neighbors scrap pile but at least i found this guy with a huge meal in his gut. It never fails to amaze me how big of meals wild snakes eat.

I don't know about you, but a satisfying snake hunt can make you forget all your troubles, especially if they revolve around your car (I'm kinda going through the same thing right now). That's a really good looking Great Basin. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I absolutly love the variability of pattern in these snakes. Congrats on your find.
