Herping Around Big Bend

ROC Jun 10, 2007 08:46 PM

First time to go out to West Texas coming up this Thurs. to Sun.
Beside the obvious and those locales listed on the alterna page (river road, boy scout road, X-mas mtns, south and west of alpine, and limpia Canyon (which is to the north of Fort Davis, right?)), are there any other places I should check out while I'm there? I'm especially looking for alterna with narrow orange saddles. You can e-mail me at zroc@sbcglobal.net or just post on here. Thanks a lot.

You will see more snakes in the western reaches than in the eastern (Terrell, Val Verde counties) but your chances of finding alterna are better in the eastern counties. Boy Scout tends to turn up an alterna for every 35 nights of hunting. Black gap probably one for every 25 nights.

Anyway, it should be a fun trip. Good luck.
