Honduran Double Clutching Techniques

RG Jun 11, 2007 11:47 AM

Hi there gents,

I was going to contact the usual suspects with this question but I thought it might be better to post my question here, so others may learn as well.

Well as you might have guessed by the subject, do you know any specific Honduran double clutching techniques? (A simple question, maybe not a simple answer.)

When I had California and Arizona Mt. Kings I would reintroduce the pair the day after the first clutch was laid. This was followed by tons of food and many more reintroductions. My Arizona's would double clutch every year without a second breeding, I always thought that was cool!

How long do you wait to reintroduce a Honduran pair after the first clutch?

Any help is greatly appreciated guys.

Hi, I have 2 females that I tried to reintroduce the male right after they laid the first time and nothing. I had 1 that after her shed 3 weeks aftre laying, she mated with the male and the other one 15 days after. This is after feeding them just about every 2 days. I have other females that I want to double clutch, so I will try the same to see if it works.

After the female has laid her clutch, feed her small meals to get her system processing normally. After she successfully passes her first meal I really start feeding heavy, as much as she will take. Reduce the size of the meals and increase the frequency you feed and number per meal. Once she post sheds I through the male back in, leaving the shed in cage for scent. I have never had a Honduran breed until after the post egg laying shed. This is what has worked for me for years now. Good Luck
