saturday night alterna

shannon brown Jun 11, 2007 12:28 PM

Well, actually it was sunday morning.
2:25 a.m 72 deg 10-15 mph wind out of the south east 8miles east of sanderson.
This is a in situ picture of this nice male and was the first sanderson for both Aaron and I and the first time either one of us has found one on our first night in Texas of a trip.

It was by chance that we were even in this area as we had started the night in the Hueco's but we were ran off by the L.E. up there.Long story and we will fill in the blanks when we get a chance.

I had a run in with the sheriff when I was in the Huecos myself

He caught me walking the road between two cuts and started laying the BS on real thick

Said it was illegal to hunt snakes - told him no it isn't
Said he would cite me for trespassing - said on a public roadway? and laughed at him...

Said the judge up thar did not like snake hunters. - Said OK, I will be careful

Kept hunting anyway...

I had my attorney call him the next day to straighten him out, off the record of course.

I spoke with another herper who had a problem in the Huecos this weekend, Seems it is a county constable who also owns the ranchland there. I get the impression that if he sees a herper while driving through the area he stops to tell them it is illegal to hunt snakes there. Best just to ignore him and file a complaint.

I might hunt the Huecos this year and don’t want to put up with any crap while there. Maybe I should send in the following letter …

Dear _______________,
I’ve been advised that ______________________ has been abusing his authority to enforce a personal vendetta against snake hunters. I plan to be in your area and will not tolerate any abuse or bullying tactics. Please advise ___________________ to keep his threats to himself and not waste my time.

He should be aware that it is illegal for anyone to interfere with a legal hunt. If he insists on harassing or unnecessarily delaying me, I will file a formal complaint and demand charges be brought against him for violating my hunting privileges.

Have it on the ready and let him hang himself with own stupidity..

Why play games, hit it head on and put it to rest. I regret not having an audio recorder the night I was stopped, I would have have hung his sorry a$$ out with it. But instead I challenged him to cite me for something and he just drove off when I did not tuck my tail between my legs and leave.

But he will keep doing this until it hurts him...

Nice one!! I wish I had the self-control to get in situ pics...I always end up running to grab the snake! Then I kick myself for not getting a pic first...

I grab it, and then think I should have taken a picture first....

Oh well, maybe the next one? With my luck I will find it on the road with a deer carcass as a backdrop... That would look nice.

Very nice find though, and congrats on the self control..

Way to go guys! It sure takes any self induced pressure off when you catch one on the first night. Looks like it was a good thing that you ran into that ridiculous LE officer in the Huecos.

Hey buddy,
What a great shot of a really nice looking snake. You guys should be happy with that one. Thanks for the call the other night. I'll let you know as soon as I head that way this next week. Good luck in the meantime.
