Mom rat bit me, what to do with her??

rainbowsrus Jun 11, 2007 05:40 PM

Oh Yeah, applied "the Rodent Rules" to the fullest extent!!!!!

don't produce - fed off
kill babies - fed off
jumpy - fed off
get sick - fed off
bite me - whacked on cement, then fed off

Fostered out her babies (they looked a bit scrawney like she wasn't doing well feeding them) and applied the last (primary) rule. Amber (BCI) thought she was tasty. (although a little pulpy)

If I raised rats and one bit - it is exactly what I would do too.

Was it a tough decision to make - Which snake to feed it to?

Lol, so true. That is exactly what happens to any of my rats who do not comply with the rules! They basically know to kiss up to me if they want to become breeders and not snake chow. I haven't had a biter in several years.

Yeah, she kinda surprised me as I have not been rat-bit in quite some time. I do have a mom who will come up and nibble on my fingers, very gently. Used to worry me but she never bites me, probably just licking off the salt I think.

when they nibble and lick like that, they are grooming you We still run such a small group of snakes that I allow my fiance to treat the breeder rats as pets, so I have had all sorts of education on rat behaviors

quite interesting, but, I am a snake person and live rats don't fare off to well under my care.

1000 fold more so, if the damn vermin decides it's a good plan to bite me.

Since, I can't bite them back, I have "one" to take them away with it.

Whilst yelling at the rat, "Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts, vermin begone!!!"

* crosses eyes, slight facial twitch, I need some rest *

I think it's safe to say that, I am a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. The cheese fell of my cracker a long time ago.

I killed a rat for pooping on me.

Well, I didn't kill him per say.

I simply upgraded his "living arrangements" from a small 10 gallon tank to a luxuriously sized large enclosure with a good sized "swimming pool" for his leisure activities.

Unfortunately, the riff raff, in his new town became a critical issue.

Whilst minding his own business and "relaxing" by his "new pool" he was strategically taken out by a dark inhabitant with malicious intentions.

He was not aware of the possible dangers of his "unexplored" new neighborhood.

Very unfortunate situation.

BTW, I HATE most RODENTS!!!!

Although I had a pet rat when I was younger, he lived at the pet store I worked at, and he sired many many many feeder rats for me, but he never came home with me. I have however kept deer mice as pets when I was younger, breed them for a wild caught neonate eastern milk snake. I have to admit they are fun and interesting to observe in their enclosures.

Grab a couple of beers, duct tape night vision to a pellet gun and let the games begin.

rainbowsrus Jun 12, 2007 02:42 PM

Only problem with that is........

I'd have to let her go first and that aint gonna happen!!!

That's true. Those nasty little critters are worth their wieght in gold when you've got a lot of boas to feed.

Did you make the other rats watch so they'll fear you wrath should they ever think about taking a nibble?

Ouuu good, public execution!!!!!

and I thought wacking them on the concrete left a lot of blood to clean up.
I often wonder what the floor of my snake rooms would look like under one of those CSI lights that pick up blood particles to small for the naked eye. Besides wacking rats I get a lot that bleed out while they're defrosting. Maybe has something to do with altitude. I'm not really sure but it's kinda a gross thought since I am usually down there barefoot.

rainbowsrus Jun 12, 2007 04:25 PM

Yeah, I've cleaned up my share of blood, thank god for linoleum!!!
