Blatta lateralis food?????

thekidgecko Jun 11, 2007 05:48 PM

Hey guys,

Truthfully I have a knack for breeding bugs...but apparently not feeding them lol!

Any non fruit or veggie food I try molds over. I've tried fish foods, both pelleted and flake.

Does anyone have a mix for a good diet for these guys that won't mold over? My colony is starting to die off so an answer would be appreciated asap! If it is to be blended, human grade products only would be appreciated

The key to the problem is keeping moisture from getting to the dry food. Generally, for all my colonies, I provide moisture by giving: fruits, vegs & lightly spraying the sides of the tanks/bins with low-to-zero mineral content of drinking water (1-2X/per day). I also have a small fan in the room running constantly to create air-flow--this greatly reduces molding & bacteria. All roach containers have either screen lids or "critter-keeper" lids.

As far as dry mixes, I use: oatmeal, non-medicated chicken mash, dye-free dog/cat chows (usually the cheap ones have no dye), baby cereal, alfalfa pellets, bread, and bran(different types).

Goodluck
