They live so close to danger, no wonder they are so wary!

I am looking for photos of them with other animals, bird of prey, lions, hippos any potential threat to them.
I am also looking for any high yellow, blue, orange or red specimens (photos)

Keepers who kept them more then a year, before and after photos, I am interested in the color change from young to adult.

Hope some of you will share some photos.
Many thanks

Jobi, aren't croc eggs a delicasy to them?? Rough way to live eh? That's a great pic.

I cant be certain but I remember reading someplace a long time ago that pairs of them will work together- one pestering a mother croc, the other pilfering the nest.

Anyway, heres some random vids:

The actual name "monitor" (translating from 'waral' to 'varan' to 'varanus' to 'monitor') is thought to have come from an Arabic word that alludes to the fact that these lizards (niloticus) warn of nearby croc's. The theory that tripoding up is "monitoring" their surroundings and when Niles are spotted -croc's are nearby (croc eggs are food).

I may be confused but, i think from "monitor" to "varanus" there is no connection...used to have a cool book called "Reptiles: Their Latin Names Explained"...i want to say "varanus" means to say something along the lines of "spray from the bottom"...anyway not a very majestic name for a majestic lizard. cheers, zak.
