I have a 1.5 year old jayapuru and its having trouble passing its last meal. I managed to lightly massage half of it out, but the other half feels to hard to massage out. Does any one have any suggestions before i take it to the vet? Can i soften the mass somewhat? any help is appreciated.

Try giving it a long luke-warm shower. I know some Emerald breeders will put their animals in rain chambers to make them defecate on occasion. If you have the means to do this, it usually works.

If not, try soaking it overnight in a tub with enough water to come 1/4 up the sides of the chondro. I think dehydration is the cause of most constipated chondros.....but I could be wrong.

Good luck.
