ND herp laws-- wild caught ND snake

choff Jun 11, 2007 09:25 PM

Hey all,

I've been keeping snakes for about 15 years, bred a number of species, and consider myself to be a knowledgeable herper. This being said, I collected a bullsnake from western North Dakota a few weeks ago. It's doing beautifully-- good tempered, eating frozen rats very well, very handleable-- but there's a problem. My wife's aunt is adamant that I can be fined for collecting it, and that no wild animal can be kept for more than 3 days.

I called BS on this one. I checked the ND century code, and there was nothing regarding this other than regarding venomous and protected species.

I called our local game warden and left a message, but he didn't call me back.

At any rate, I can find no laws regarding this, and I'm pretty sure I'm good to go. Have I covered all of my bases?

Thanks

Choff,

Well, even if you did cover all your bases and there was a law they would probably throw the book at you. That is what kind of BS society we live in nowadays. I would call the main headquarters for ND Game & Fish and find out. It might be prudent to look online for answers or otherwise not implicate yourself until you know for sure. Some LE just want to bust people no matter how honest a citizen you try and be.
