Halloween Ball?

Courtney0639 Jun 12, 2007 05:19 PM

I have heard of this only a little bit and i just bought a very pretty little female at the hamburg show. They were calling her an orange, but from the description of a halloween ball i think she might be that. She has very dark black and orange instead of yellow, also her belly is orangish instead of clear white. I don't have a pic of her yet, but i will take one within the next couple days and post it. From what i have heard they are supposed to keep their color and i thought crossing with a pied would be insteresting. Tell me what you think about the halloween balls...

I have a sub adult female halloween I hope to breed next year. She is a three year old but has been a fussy mouse eater. Unlike every other ball I have ever seen though, she still has the color and pattern she had when I got her as a hatchling. I know very little about them. Ian G. told me he gets a couple every year and that he believes they are a dominant gene. I will probably breed her with a male pinstripe or spider next year if all goes well. Evan

I have a Ball that is supposed to be a CH Halloween Ball, purchased from Vin Russo, who has the original Halloween Balls???
Anyway, she slugged out this year, I am very bummed. I have nicknamed it the Tangerine Ball. Yes, I know, old pics, I will take some new ones once she bulks back up after laying. She is well on her way, over 1800 grams.

Hey Dave, mine is totally different than that.

Courtney0639 Jun 14, 2007 07:35 AM

Mine is different as well. Mine was sold as an orange, not a halloween, but she is much more orange. She looks like a pumpkin with a very orange tint to her belly. I have pics, however, my camera is being stupid so i will try to get the pics up tonight

Vin Russo's site has the Halloween story. The story on my particular snake was, he hatched out several balls he called halloween, based on their color, and got an identical animal in from Africa. Since it was a female, and all his other halloweens were female, he sold this one.

My animal came from Ian. He had a couple of them and like I said, he told me gets a few every year. As a hatchling it was jet black with bright orange, hence the name halloween. It is a little lighter now but still has great color. It has a very distinct pattern as well. Your animal looks nothing like what I have. I do not even see any orange on it. It is just yellow and brown, right?

Of course you do not evan, of course noT. YouR snake, althOugh you have not posted a picture of it, is obviousLy much nicer than mine. By the way, I was not responding to you, but to the originaL poster.

What an ugly snake mine is I do not see any orange, just brown, what was I thinking?

Thanks, I got her at the hamburg show for $65. They sold her as an orange, but i wasn't quite sure what she was. I am hoping she will hold her color and if she does breed her to pied, since pied babies have a little orange that fades. I was hoping to get a pied that holds the orange maybe. Anyway, i think she is pretty cool no matter what she is. The picture doesn't really do her justice, but she has a lot of orange on her sides and then at the very top is yellow and her belly is not white but orangey as well.

Courtney, I am glad you love your Ball The color is very nice, lots of orange and dark black.

The rule of thumb for selecting Balls, as babies, whatever is orange will turn brown, whatever is yellow, will stay yellow. This is not always true, but when picking keepers, or a nice Pastel, the more yellow and less orange the better, as a rule!

Wow, you take everything personally and cry alot don't you? My animal does not have a normal head for one. Two, your pictures were so dark and poor that it sure looked yellow. Now there is a little orange as a baby, but not as an adult I see. I have had pics of it posted on my site for 2 years and pics posted on this forum before when the same topic came up, and by the way, it came up because somebody saw it on my website and asked if anyone else had one. It isn't all about you.

EmberBall Jun 14, 2007 08:00 PM

I can take critisism, but you need to have a basis for it. You think the pictures, except the baby picture, are too dark??? Are we even looking at the same pictures? Who cares what is on your website, never been there, never will go there, so how am I supposed to see what you are talking about? I never said I had the same snake you two do, I said mine was sold as a Halloween, plain and simple. Someone was asking about Halloweens, and for info on them. There is info on the morph, if it is a morph, on Vin Russo's site, at least there was last time I looked. Supposedly, that is the Halloween I have. Yes, my snake has alot of Yellow, which is good, since orange usually turns to brown.

Always with the insults. "I'll never go to your site! It's not good enough for me!" Come on now. You responded to comments made in the thread. I was prior to you. I explained the background of my animal. I even went to look for my saved pics from my site and could not find that section and so I went to take a pic of the snake just to make you happy and as my luck would have it, she is opaque. BUT for starters, her head is many shades lighter than her body. She has light colored eyes. She is striped dorsally and in the neck of the dorsal stripe are small black stripes. She has a white belly.

Your baby pic was dark and I did not realize it had much orange when I first looked at it. Your adult pics have plenty of light and no orange color at all. Maybe orange turns to brown on some balls but the babies are what is sold and if the baby is orange it will be popular. They are similar to pastels and likely are really just a form of pastel. What I said from the go was, your animal is not the same thing as mine. I told you what I knew about the origin. The ones you are referring to probably came from Ian's shipments as well as many of the guys on the East coast buy from him.
