What is this snake?

alittlefreaky Jun 13, 2007 12:29 AM

I live in Muskogee Oklahoma. I found this snake in our house, in a spare room we were using for storage. While cleaning it out, we found this snake. It is about 12" to 18" long. It kind of startled me because I think it could be a Timber Rattlesnake. I did not see a rattle on it, nor did i hear a rattle. Here is a photo of the snake.
Thanks

Phot is not showing up. Based on circumstances alone, I would wager a rat snake -- they are abundant all over Oklahoma and quite commonly get into attics and basements in search of prey. Totally harmless and very beneficial to have around. A good way to handle any snake intruder, vemomous or not, is to scoop it up with a leaf rake or snow shovel and carry it outside. Chances are it will simply crawl away and you'll never see it again.

Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus)
It didn't rattle because all but the first segment of it's rattle has been broken off (happens sometimes).
