What is this snake?

alittlefreaky Jun 13, 2007 12:31 AM

I live in Muskogee Oklahoma. I found this snake in our house, in a spare room we were using for storage. While cleaning it out, we found this snake. It is about 12" to 18" long. It kind of startled me because I think it could be a Timber Rattlesnake. I did not see a rattle on it, nor did i hear a rattle. Here is a photo of the snake.
Thanks

Very definitely a rattlesnake, and it looks like a timber to me. I'm not great about identifying the subspecies of rattlesnakes, but I know a pit viper when I see it!

Yup, that's a timber rattlesnake.

OK, replied below before I saw your successfully posted pic. Yes, a timber rattler with rattles damaged, which explains the silence. The same advice below applies. You might also set some rodent traps around the house to get rid of the food supply that attracted this guy in the first place.

It is a Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus). It looks to be very emaciated.

That's definately a Timber His rattles are just broken off.

If memory servers me right rattlers are simply dead skin that grows from each shed, with that said a baby like the one in your picture wouldn’t have much of a rattle to begin with. Looks in good health to me no folds in the skin, decent size girth wise, was this shot taken late in the day early in the morning doesn’t look like the sun is out? Could just be/look placid from a cool night..
