hiberbatiing question

i am gonna set up my tegu for hibernation soon and just wanted to check with you guys to see if this would be good. i am gonna a little bit more then 2 feet of dirt in half of his 10x5 foot outdoor enclosure. should i place a hide box or will he just dig the hole himself. i live in southern california so it should not get to cold. what do you guys think about this
