Western Banded Geckos

fattiesnleos Jun 13, 2007 03:20 PM

hello everyone! my question i hope is simple. i have seen people selling captive born western banded geckos here in CA. i thought it was illegal to sell them however? maybe C/B is okay to sell but not W/C? this particular person is very well known so i dont imagine that they would break the laws but i am not sure. i know of course it is illegal to own the magic/barefoot/switaki, but i mean the other kinds. anyhow if it is legal but you must have a permit of some sort to sell i would like to know or any info would be awesome! i breed and sell leos/fatties and i find the western geckos atractive but dont want to get myself in a sticky situation, like purchasing some, breeding them, wind up with tons of babies to find out it is illegal to sell them. that would really suck. thanks! i hope i came to the right place.

It is indeed illegal to sell Coleonyx variegatus (Western banded gecko) in California. Some DFG people interpret the law as it being illegal to even possess more than two per person.
If they have babies you are required to give them away.
