Double clutching???

Aspidelapsfan Jun 13, 2007 05:31 PM

Has anyone ever heard of double clutching in chondros? My female dropped 17 eggs on 1/28/07, and appears to have started ovulating again as of yesterday (6/12/07). She hasn’t been with a male since her last breeding in December 2006. I’ve been told females occasionally ovulate off season, but usually nothing comes from it. Has anyone heard of females retaining sperm and ovulating a second time in year? She has been eating regularly up to now, maybe that’ll change. I've attached two pics I just took; I have a rather large hand so you get an idea of her size.

Thanks for any help,
Evan

It's been done once that I know of. Trooper Walsh bred a female and got two clutches within a 9 or 10 month period. The female ended up passing with the second clutch. I hope your female does ok.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I’m hoping she does ok. I wasn’t wishing for this and was actually planning on giving her a year off.

It is rather ironic that I have a Children’s Python who is following the chondro in ovulating a second time and possibly double clutching without being introduced to a male again. Both snakes were very close to each other in their original breeding (i.e.: dates of ovulation/oviposition) and are matching each other again. Thanks again.
